The Masoala Peninsula - Home of Masoala National Park

If you plan to venture into the Sava region of Madagascar, be sure to take an extensive Detour to the Masoala Peninsula plan. This forms the eastern point of Madagascar's main island and is home to a primary forest that remains almost unchanged even today, which in the Masoala National Park is protected. The national park includes the largest parts of the peninsulas and since the year 2007 is also considered part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage protected. In addition to coastal forests and mangrove forests, the underwater worlds off the peninsula are also affected by UNESCO's protection, as numerous coral reefs are located off the coast here. The national park offers all kinds of spectacular experiences for nature lovers: Ten alone different lemur species have found their natural habitat in the park, in addition to numerous reptiles, birds and insects. Various animal species in Masoala National Park have been on the Red List of endangered species for years and should therefore be treated with special care. We recommend the national park exclusively with an experienced guide to visit. This is not only important for safety reasons, but is also recommended because otherwise many of the exotic creatures would certainly not be discovered. After all, it is not only the chameleons in Madagascar's primary forest that are optimally trimmed to camouflage themselves.

In addition to Masoala National Park, the peninsula of the same name also offers the City

Maroantsetra an important highlight on a possible trip. From the bay there can be made numerous excursions by water. The Observation of the humpback whaleswhich give birth to their young in the warm waters off the coast of Madagascar, is just one of the many conceivable highlights. Also a hike across the peninsula can be recommended with the appropriate physical condition. However, you should be prepared for the a good one hundred kilometers long route Accordingly, plan up to five days. We also highly recommend a side trip to Nosy Mangabe, where there is hardly any infrastructure, but plenty of untouched nature. In the three lodges on the Masoala peninsula you can spend the night comfortably and dine pleasantly.

The Vanilla Coast - Fine flavors and beautiful beaches

The Vanilla Coast of Madagascar did not get its name by chance: Numerous plantations where the precious orchids are grown, which are a unique flavor can be discovered along this coastal strip. The The capital of this region is Sambava, other cities are Andapa, Antalaha and Vohemar. The first letters of these cities have given the region another name: Sava.

Besides the various vanilla plantations, there are of course many other highlights to discover in this region. The Marojejy National Park must be absolutely mentioned at this point. This is a very dense and very pristine primary forest, as you know it otherwise certainly only from television. Gladly you can plan in one of the three camps of the park and perhaps even a Ascent to the highest peak of the National Park dare. However, we recommend this only if you are physically fit and accompanied by an experienced guide. Besides the national park, Sambava, the capital of the region, is also worth seeing. There is still today the Main hub for the vanilla beans and the colorful life in the city will surely sweep you away within no time. From there it is not far to Iharana, a city also known as Vohemar. There live about 15,000 inhabitants and numerous excellent restaurants with various culinary specialties await you here.

A good bit further west, there are numerous other stations that we would like to introduce to you. The so-called Red desert of the northwhich inspires not only because of its impressive color, but also because of the numerous gold deposits, is definitely worth a look. From here it is only a stone's throw to the Nosy Be Islandwhich is just waiting to spoil you with all its amenities and highlights. Nosy Be is the largest of Madagascar's tributary islands and is nearly fully developed for tourism. If you are looking for luxurious accommodation, you have come to the right place.

Further north lie the Tsingy from Ankaranawhich also represent a national park. These are pointed rock needles, which rise from the ground into the air. A unique spectacle that has been formed over thousands of years. Various caves, comfortable accommodation and the Prospect of unique experiences in the local flora and fauna will also inspire you. Another excursion destination can be the coastal town of Antsiranana, which will welcome you with its impressive colonial buildings and numerous opportunities for various activities. FOR MADAGASCAR

After 10 months of total inactivity, self-employed people in the tourism industry in Madagascar are completely without income. There is no opening of the borders in sight in Madagascar and we are at the beginning of the rainy season, which is the low season, even in normal times. I have started a fundraiser for the guides and drivers I know well. From this money we will buy rice and other essentials and distribute them regularly, if possible, until the resumption of travel activities in April 2021 at the earliest. My special thanks to those who have already donated. I will start buying rice tomorrow and will begin distributing it this week.
