Tourism in Madagascar- shattered on the ground by Covid
Madagascar is unfortunately no exception, the tourism industry is devastated and unlike other African countries with very low Corona infection, there is unfortunately no opening of the airports in sight here.
Travel companies, tour guides, drivers, accommodations, restaurants and national parks are primarily affected but the devastating effects of the crisis are much more dramatic in more remote regions.
And this was accelerated mainly by the introduction of lockdowns, travel restrictions and the suspension of international flights. Tour guides and other people in the industry lost their jobs. Fortunately, we have started a crowdfunding campaign that can keep our employees afloat, and through the generosity of donors, it is also intended as a fund for acute emergencies.
At Christmas, the roof of a family of a young woman who works with us burned down and we were able to have it repaired and also pay for blankets and clothes that were burned.
