The Peyrieras Reserve or Madagascar Exotic
On the RN2 we head east towards the rainforest.
On the way to Andasibe, after a tremendous descent from the highlands, the green mountain cloud forests begin.
The in the valley of the River Mandraka located attraction is situated in the middle of a dense tropical forest with a natural pond, perfect for insect breeding.
After that, the path of the reserve leads to a hilltop, from which you can see a wide view of the surrounding area.
Since this place is only 72 km from the capital Antananarivo the visit can be planned as a day trip, but this would involve a lot of driving. It would be much better to plan it as a sightseeing trip on the way to Andasibe or further east in the direction of Sainte Marie.
Located at the entrance to the village of Marozevo there is a unique reserve to visit, Pereira's farm or the Madagascar Exotic, a breeding and reproduction center.
Why Pereiras is an interesting stopover on a trip to Andasibe, Ankanin' ny Nofy and the Sainte Marie Island (Nosy Boraha)?
On display are an incredible number of Chameleons Of some species native to the island, ie. Chameleons from areas that cannot possibly be seen on a single trip to Madagascar.
All animals can be observed and photographed at close range, close skin contact is even possible.
There are also many Geckos, Uroplatys which are almost invisible in the wild, Tomato frogs and others Frogs from Madagascar.
Butterflies, including the Comet butterfly, if the visit takes place at the right time of year.
Snakes can also be seen up close, Boas and even the very rare Langaha madagascariensis.
Tenreks, Flying foxes and Crocodiles are also always on display.
In the adjacent Game Reserve can Sifaka lemurs be observed.
The tours are available in English and French and they last up to two hours.
This is an interesting overview from the amazing wildlife of Madagascar, some of the animals you will see during the various visits to the National Parks of their itineraries but rarely so close and so easy to photograph.
Madagascar Exotic is therefore also very popular for Photo travel, especially of course for Animal and for macro photography.
It is available under Animal photographers very famous because of its proximity to the animals. It is one of the sites that would allow, under favorable conditions, good Wildlife shots to make.
It provides a nice introduction to the Fauna of Madagascar thanks to the many different endemic species.
Specifically, this reserve also serves as a breeding center, with a very beautiful setting of a valley with rice fields, mango trees and lychee plantations.
The private reserve owes its name to the Entomologist and naturalist André Peyrieras.
On the road to Toamasina, after the descent from Mandraka, the Peyrieras Reserve is open daily from 7 am to 5 pm.
