Very beautiful route over an almost untraveled road that is located at an altitude of over 2000 meters. Antsirabe is located 170km south of Antananarivo, this large city is an important economic center and famous for its pleasant high altitude climate and healing springs. I ounded in the 19th century by Norwegian missionaries, Antsirabe has a much more "European" feel than other towns in Madagascar, as evidenced by the magnificent colonial mansions and regular buildings. |

The landscape is rich green, the rice fields are a mosaic of all possible shades of green in the mirror of countless ponds. The region of Fianarantsoa is intensively used for agriculture. We visit the photo studio of the world-famous photographer Pierrot Men in Fianarantsoa and then a completely different mountain landscape begins. Overnight stay in Ambalavao |
Day 6: Ambalavao - RanohiraDaily stage of about 200 km Gradually you will leave the plateaus to discover an extraordinary sacred mountain range: the Isalo Massif. The day begins with a hike in a reserve founded and managed by the local village community, it is the: "Association Anja Miray", called Anja Park for short. In the reserve of about 3 hectares, which is located 13 km to the south, hundreds of calicoes cavort, also rare reptiles like the dwarf chameleon Brookesia will be shown to you. The park is also home to several burial caves and spiritual meeting places of the local Betsileo and is well worth the 2 to 4 hour visit. Today we continue south, the fertile highlands end here and a landscape of huge granite rocks surrounds us. Short rest in Ihosy and then after about 2 hours drive we reach Ranohira, located in the middle of the wide plateau of Horombe. Here lies the famous Isalo National Park which we will visit the next day. |
