The journey takes you first through the colorful hustle and bustle of the suburbs the capital and then through Behenjy and Ambatolampy. In one of these two places you will have a lunch break and you can strengthen yourself in one of the restaurants there. Afterwards you will continue to Antsirabe, a important business location in Madagascar. The distance from Antananarivo to Antsirabe is about 170 kilometers and is lined with exciting landscapes. Antsirabe itself inspires with its attractive colonial villas and its European look. Day 5 - Morondava to KirindyKirindy, 50 km northeast of the city of Morondava, is a privately managed forest. Dominated by majestic baobab trees and a forest canopy as tall as 14 meters, this protected area of about 100 square kilometers is the only place where the world's smallest known primate, the giant jumping rat, occurs. Kirindy is the best place on the entire island to observe fossas, especially during the mating season between October and December. It is also home to seven species of lemurs. The most common are the common brown lemurs and the sifakas . 40 species of birds, 50 species of reptiles and 15 species of amphibians are also found in this magnificent forest. The flora is also quite unusual and contains several locally endemic plant species. The two baobab species of Kirindy reach simply incredible sizes here. Day 9 - Sahambavy via Fianarantsoa to AmbalavaoIn the morning, a small guided walk is organized through small rice fields and especially through the Betsileo landscape. After leaving the town of Fianarantsoa and arriving in a small village where we will be invited to a typical Malagasy meal . In the afternoon we will continue towards Ambalavao, a very important city for the Zebu trade. The landscape changes into mountains, vineyards decorate the valleys and huge boulders stand surrounded by greenery. |
Day 10 - Ambalavao-Anja Park-Tsaranoro MountainsToday we start a real adventure: After breakfast we first drive south until we reach for the first time a reserve founded by a village community which is beautifully located and where hundreds of lemurs and other animals can live undisturbed. After that we have to drive about 20 km on the RN7 until we reach the turnoff to the Tsaranoro valley, one of the accesses to the Andringitra mountains. After a 1 hour drive on a bad track we reach the Tsarasoa camp below the famous "Pic Chameleon", which lives up to its name. Here there is still enough time to do a 2-hour climb to the summit or - optionally - to "get up close" to numerous lemurs in a nearby forest area. Dinner and overnight at Tsarasoa Camp. |
Day 11 - Tsaranoro MountainsThis day is dedicated to hiking in the Tsaranoro mountain range.
