From Antananarivo we will go by plane to Antsiranana (Diego Suarez) and also a side trip to Nosy Be, the famous Perfume Island, is included in this tour. Day 2-Inland flight from Antananarivo to Diego SuarezThe capital of northern Madagascar is approached today, Antsiranana (Diégo Suarez), is a region rich in history.From the architecture, a testimony of French colonization, Antsiranana (or Diego Suarez) offers a range of attractions in the city. Water and land activities against a backdrop of breathtaking landscapes: the turquoise sea of Ramena beach, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, the Amber Mountains and the Ankarana massif, as well as the landscapes of the red Tsingy or the Emerald Sea are on the agenda in the coming days.Overnight again at the Hotel Alamanda. |
Day 3 - Ramena and the three baysIt goes to Ramena to the three bays that have a breathtaking sight offer. Alternatively, a visit to the Francais assembly with its numerous baobabs and succulents on the plan.a wonderful excursion that should preferably be done with a quad or mountain bike. We first reach the bay of Sakalava, then the bay of the doves and finally the bay of the dunes before arriving at the beach of Orangea and the village of Ramena (another beautiful beach). The sandy path winds through forests of achypodia and xerophytic species. From Ramena you can also visit the 3 bays on foot, one way takes about 4 hours. Day 4 - Ramena and the Emerald SeaOn the fourth day, we again head towards Ramena, this time visiting the so-called Emerald Sea is on the plan. This is a multitude of small and uninhabited islands and a fascinating beautiful lagoon, where extensive snorkeling and swimming is a lot of fun.The Emerald Sea is a lagoon of Madagascar, located at the entrance of the bay of Diego-Suarez in the extreme north of the country. Protected from tourism, the turquoise sea and some deserted islets can be reached by fishing boats from the village of Ramena.It is an extensive lagoon with a turquoise hue due to its shallow waters combined with sandy bottoms.It is separated from the Indian Ocean by a coral reef and a series of islets. The 3 main islands are Nosy Antaly Be, Nosy Diego and Nosy Suarez. |
Day 5 Montagne d'Ambre National ParcThe next two days will be dedicated to the Montagne D'Ambre National Parkswhere volcanic massifs and inspiring forest areas, waterfalls, hidden lakes and the fascinating flora and fauna of the forest line up. With a little luck also wait in the national park numerous lemurs just waiting to be observed and photographed by you.Montagne d'Ambre (Amber Mountain) is an isolated piece of mountain forest rising from the surrounding arid region. The park is famous for its waterfalls, crater lakes and wildlife.Montagne d'Ambre is located near Joffreville (Ambohitra), about 27 km southwest of Diego Suarez (Antsiranana). Joffreville, a former retreat for French officers now in disrepair, is the entrance to the park.Montagne d'Ambre consists of montane rainforest, mid-elevation and dry deciduous forest. It has wide hiking trails and campsites, and is characterized by wind and cool weather that even gets quite cold at night.Montagne d'Ambre is known for its rich diversity of reptiles, especially chameleons.Overnight at Alamanda Hotel |
Days 6 and 7 Ankarana National ParkThis reserve contains one of the highest primate densities of any forest in the world.Its dense forests harbor one of the largest and least disturbed populations of crowned lemurs. Sanford's brown lemur, black Perrier's lemur, northern sporting lemur and pygmy lemurs, ringed mongoose, fossa, tenrecs and Madagascar striped civet are also a common sight. Nearly 100 species of birds, 50 reptiles (including some endemic and endangered snakes and geckos) and 10 frogs coexist in the park.Inside the spectacular and vast cave maze, 14 species of bats, native endemic blind shrimp and the world's only known cave-dwelling crocodiles await your visit.At night, swarms of bats and flying foxes cavort in the darkness. |
Day 8- From Ankarana to AmbanjaThe town of Ambanja is located on the banks of the Sambirano River, in a very fertile valley completely planted with cacao trees.It is one of the wettest parts of the west coast. The village even has its own cathedral with a surprising history (the 19th century metal structure belonged to the Strasbourg train station...)The road to the village is lined with teks or mantalias, large trees that provide generous shade. There are no attractions in the area. It is just a simple stopover on the way to Nosy Be. The stopover here is necessary because the hotels are slightly better than in Ankify. |
Day 9 - With the Ferry to Nosy BeFrom Ambanja, after breakfast, we go straight to Ankify to the port. The Nosy Be archipelago is located on the northwest coast of Madagascar and is actually quite well known and has very nice hotel facilities. Its tropical climate and excellent location make Nosy Be Madagascar's beach resort par excellence. Not to mention, this still beautiful island offers some amazing snorkeling and diving opportunities and some primary forests with great wildlife. |
Days 10 to 13 - Nosy Be and surrounding IslandsThe landscape of Nosy Be is varied and characterized by numerous hills overlooked by Mount Lokone (450 m) and Mount Passot (350 m).From these high vantage points you have an exceptional view of the bay of Nosy Be, but also of the Radama Islands (south) and the Mitsio Islands (north).There are eleven volcanic lakes on the island, providing an enormous water reserve for people and crops.The entire coastline is punctuated by a multitude of beautiful bays and secluded, palm-fringed beaches.There are also many small islets and rocks, often visited by shelters in search of some privacy.Temperatures are pleasant all year round. Note that humidity can be particularly poor during the tropical summer.Nosy Be offers a wide range of activities that will please even the most discerning visitor.Escape the crowds on white sand beaches, blue-green seas and amazing coral reefs. Visit the city or go on an excursion in Antananarivos Surrounding areawhere all kinds of fruits and vegetables are grown on large plantations. Also a visit to the Lemurs Park we can only warmly recommend. Here you can get very close to the funny semi-monkeys once again.
