Andranomena

The Andranomena Special Reserve is relatively small and has a size of only about 64 square kilometers about 30 kilometers northeast of Morondava located. The special reserve was opened for tourists not so long ago and offers the ideal destination for a day trip. The best way to get there is from Morondava and takes a good hour. Whether you arrive during the rainy or dry season is basically irrelevant, as the road into the reserve is in a less good condition anyway. Especially in the dry season, however, the sun can shine relatively strongly from the sky, which is why you should definitely ask for a adequate sun protection should take care of. However, temperatures rarely rise above the 30°C mark, which is why the Hiking in the reserve is still quite possible. In the park itself there are no accommodations, which is why the Overnight stays always in Morondava take place. For a day trip is usually recommended two specific tours: the first is called Antsarongaza Circuit known and lasts a good two hours. You move on this tour through dense deciduous forest and discover giant baobabs as well as lively lemurs and reptiles. The alternative to this tour is the Tour of the four lakes. This tour also takes you through the forest and past the baobabs, with the focus then turning to waterfowl and plants. The Andranomena Special Reserve is composed of dense deciduous and dry forest together. Some smaller lakes with many endemic aquatic plants can also be discovered, although some of the smaller lakes lose their water during the dry season. The Andranomena Special Reserve has a too 75 percent endemic wildlifeof which some particularly endangered species are unfortunately now also on the Red List of Threatened Species. In particular the Human use of natural resources as well as the excessive keeping of cattle as livestock. threaten the unique ecosystem, which can be discovered in the Andranomena Special Reserve. Poaching, slash-and-burn agriculture, and unfortunately, more and more animal and plant species in this reserve are in danger of disappearing forever.

This severe threat is particularly tragic given the amazing species richness that prevails in Andranomena. Alone twelve different species of lemurs like the Verraux sifakas, the sportive lemurs and also the brown lemurs. Furthermore, the very shy fossa and the very rare giant springer rats. Also numerous Bird species and reptilesThe species of turtles that live in Andranomena are facing strong threats. This includes especially the flat-tailed turtle, of which there are only very few specimens left in the whole world.

Help

FOR MADAGASCAR

After 10 months of total inactivity, self-employed people in the tourism industry in Madagascar are completely without income. There is no opening of the borders in sight in Madagascar and we are at the beginning of the rainy season, which is the low season, even in normal times. I have started a fundraiser for the guides and drivers I know well. From this money we will buy rice and other essentials and distribute them regularly, if possible, until the resumption of travel activities in April 2021 at the earliest. My special thanks to those who have already donated. I will start buying rice tomorrow and will begin distributing it this week.
