Ambatovaky
Ambatovaky is a Nature reserve in the east of Madagascar and is considered one of the largest special reserves on the island. A particularly rich flora and a 70 percent endemic fauna make this reserve unique. However, access to this reserve is somewhat difficult and costly. Ambatovaky lies between two rivers, the Marimbona and the Simianona. The landscape in the reserve is dotted with hills, some of which bring with them a considerable height. If you travel to Ambatovaky you should start this trip in Sonierana Ivongo. From there, you will first drive along a fairly well-maintained dirt road, before the expedition character of this tour comes to the fore: you will reach Ambatovaky exclusively via the river by motorboat, and for this you will have to make an four-hour trip schedule. Afterwards you can still enjoy a two to three day walk before and only then you have really arrived in the special reserve. Alternatively, you can extend the boat trip to seven hours and go to the village of Ambodiriana. From there, the walk takes only one full day to reach the special reserve.
However, if you have successfully completed the hardships of the journey, you can expect in the park for it a spectacular view. The hilly landscape is covered by almost completely untouched rainforest, gigantic gorges and rock faces, from which impressive waterfalls cascade down, characterize the picture. Many great hiking trails and a magnificent natural scenery are so to speak the Basis for your individual nature expedition. Fascinating and particularly rare bird species such as the snake eagle can be observed in Ambatovaky as well as eleven different classified lemur species. Indri-Indris, the famous fingered animal Aye-Aye, black and white Varis and also Diademed Sifakas are not rare in the special reserve Ambatovaky. Numerous frogs, fishes, chameleons, tenreks and, of course, hardly countable unique plants are also found in the Special Reserve Ambatovaky.
